history and collaboration
edit a canvas together live, undo your own changes, and go back to any earlier version without losing what came after.
A canvas saves itself as you work. Several people, and the pixies, can work on it at the same time, and you can step back through what happened.
working together
Anyone with editor access (see sharing) can edit a canvas while others have it open. Moves, new nodes, wires, text and results appear on everyone's screen as they happen. There is no save button and no "someone else is editing" lock.
- Pixies edit the same board. You will see nodes appear and wires draw while one works.
- When a pixie needs you, the browser tab changes: its favicon becomes the pixie's sprite and the tab title shows what it needs. Otherwise the tab shows the project name.
- A tab left in the background disconnects after about a minute and reconnects when you return, so a hidden tab doesn't keep a connection open. A canvas you've opened before paints from your browser's copy right away and becomes editable once it has caught up; see navigation and shortcuts.
- People with viewer access see changes live but can't make any. A View only badge shows next to the name.
undo and redo
<kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>Z</kbd> undoes, <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>⇧</kbd> <kbd>Z</kbd> or <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>Y</kbd> redoes. The same two arrows sit at the top right of the canvas, greyed out when there is nothing to undo.
Undo is yours alone. It reverses what you did, never what a teammate or a pixie did. Changes made within a quarter of a second of each other count as one step, so dragging a node undoes in one go.
Undo covers the canvas itself: nodes, wires, positions and settings. It does not recall a model run you already started or a file you already uploaded.
version history
Open the three dots menu and choose Version history, or press <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>K</kbd> and search for it. A panel opens on the right.
- Each row has a short summary of what changed, the version number, how long ago and who saved it: you, autosave or a teammate (shown as a short id).
- Rows are grouped by day (Today, Yesterday, then dates). Saves by the same person within 10 minutes collapse into one session; N earlier saves in this session expands them.
- The newest row is marked current.
preview and compare
Click a row to preview it without changing anything. The canvas shows that version, a banner says Previewing v… with counts of what is changed, removed or added since, and the row expands to list the differences: ~N changed, +N added, −N removed and the change in wires. Click the row again to turn the preview off. Exit in the banner does the same.
restore
Press Restore on a row, in the panel or in the preview banner. The old version becomes the canvas as a new version on top. History is never rewritten, so everything after it is still in the list and you can restore forward again.
Restoring brings back nodes, wires and settings. Your current result trays stay: models' generated results are not rolled back.
what is kept
- Every structural change gets its own version: adding or deleting a node or wire, changing settings.
- A long run of edits to the same nodes by the same person is folded: ixi keeps one version per 10 minutes plus the latest, so editing one node for an hour doesn't create hundreds of rows.
- Deleting a canvas from the dashboard deletes its history with it.
backups
For a copy that lives outside ixi, use the three dots menu: Export bundle downloads the canvas and everything it references as a file, and Import bundle… brings one back as a new canvas.
limits & good to know
- A canvas you can only view does not accept changes, so there is nothing to undo.
- A preview is read-only. Close it before you edit.
- Restoring a version doesn't restore other canvases that this one points to; each nested canvas has its own history. See nested canvases and the library.
